What does ADHD feel like? An analogy..

You drive your car exclusively in 1st gear🚗

It’s very noisy and you can feel the car struggle. It can accelerate quickly but the pressure of staying in first gear means the car can breakdown often.

⛽You try buying the premium petrol and more expensive tyres but it doesn’t seem to help.

You talk to your friends about it and tell them how the car seems to be better when you change gears manually.

"Oh no you shouldn’t need to do that," they say. "The proven way to get the best out of a car is to let the gears change automatically, just press stop and go, it's so easy! And stop using that hand break, it’s not necessary. Just put it into park."

📖So you follow their advice because not only they say this but it seems everybody agrees. Car experts have written books on this and drivers of racing cars also promote these strategies.

You carry on driving your noisy car in first gear, stalling, breaking down, rolling backwards on hills and you don’t understand how to put the car into park...

..... but you try your best to anyway.

You conclude that you simply have a pretty crappy car.

This is what undiagnosed ADHD can feel like

One day you meet someone with a different view who tells you, "ignore their advice, it’s right for them but they are all driving automatic cars, yours is a manual!"

They proceed to show you how the manual car engine works, why changing gears manually is important, what maintenance to do, and help you to recall what you found had the car run better in the past.

🗺️They also work with to you plan the awesome road trips now possible with this car which is more AMAZING than you ever realised.

 And that’s ADHD coaching

Your brain is amazing!
